The first floriculture auction of the 2025/2026 season officially opened at 5:30 am at the Mercato dei fiori di Sanremo. The event marks the start of the new commercial season and confirms the Market’s central role within the Ligurian floriculture district.
Over 90,000 stems sold
The first session saw the participation of 35 exporting companies and 65 local producers. A total of 91,000 stems of ranunculus and anemones were sold, generating a turnover of over €71,000.
The 249 transactions completed through the Dutch auction system recorded prices ranging from €0.10 to €2.32 per stem.
Quality and strong interest from operators
The drop in night-time temperatures favoured the growth of healthy, high-quality flowers, featuring a wide variety of colours. This offer generated strong interest among the operators attending the auction.
Tradition and innovation
“The flower auction represents the beating heart of a sector that combines tradition and innovation,” stated Sergio Tommasini, President of AMAIE Energia e Servizi.
“This will be the last edition held at the historic site: starting next year, thanks to PNRR funding, the auction will take place in a modern and functional facility, designed for an increasingly competitive market.”
A strategic sector for Sanremo
“The Mercato dei fiori is much more than a place of commercial exchange,” commented Ester Moscato, Councillor for Floriculture of the Municipality of Sanremo.
“It is a living chapter in the city’s history and a strategic opportunity for the local economy and for the environment.”
